    Didn't want to respond, but a certain European country nearly 100 years ago was pushed to the poverty line by circumstances brought onto itself and by very harsh repatriations. Not long after it's people elected a politician who eventually destroyed his own country. So you could apply the same "logic" that for a while there this certain countries population benefited from the policies of it's elected government until it was annihilated. Thankfully for this country despite the misery of it's people and it's strategic importance as the main pawn in the Cold War, it was allowed to rise from the ashes and prosper again but only due to the generosity of it's conquerers. So blame the government not the people or would you still prefer we blame the people. There I didn't even mention the war. Apologies Mr.Cleese.
