I agree Ex, with these features like the skarn, I would expect positive results from any hole targeting said features. I think the question is not ‘is’ there any mineralisation present, but rather, how much and what shape does it take in relation to the structural controls in the area.
In my opinion, anyone whether it be a geo, businessman or whoever, would want their first drilling results to be strong and as such, plan them in areas where they calculate the greatest chance of finding something. Further down the road, the systematic drilling will occur to define grade boundaries etc, but for now, we can look forward to potentially company making virgin discovery holes.
The time scales of drilling programmes are like fingerprints, no two are the same. Just because neighbor ‘Joe’ drilled X meters of diamond in 3 weeks doesn’t mean MNE will achieve the same rate; could be quicker or slower. Judging by the fact that MNE are targeting faulted areas of ground, drilling will be a bit slower than usual if they want the highest amount of core recovery and maintain its structural competence, so that the maximum amount of data can be retrieved.
Allot depends on the infrastructure of the tenement too, for example, is the geo logging the core at the rig or is it being transported to a core yard which is located a few hours drive away? Are they whole core sampling of cutting the core in half/quarter (again adds time to process the core if more core cutting is required)? Is the geo performing other measurements on the core, such as specific gravity? Finally, is the geochem lab that the samples being sent to located on the island or elsewhere? I am sure there is one on the island but how many samples can in process per day etc? As you can see, there are many factors which affect the time between drilling commencing and retrieving assays from the lab.
It may be prudent if the time between drilling and assays is longer than expected, MNE release announcements, containing photos of the core, highlighting areas that is expected to grade well. This, in my view, would be extremely useful to shareholders as we will be in the ‘loop’ at all times, and allow further discussion related to facts rather that what if scenarios.
