I don't know anyone who doesn't appreciate access to electrical power. That power comes at cost and that cost can be measured in lives lost. This link gives a figure of 12,146 deaths among coal miners arising directly because of mining activity. Burning coal still accounts for the majority of our electricity in Australia.
