Interesting times. The service QFX offers is a step in the right direction for visual consumers and quickens the death of commercial stations, imo.

However pirating is a further step closer to what consumers want - access to any content at any time. (Ask the teenagers what they are doing with their unlimited internet plans)

E.G. Take HBO's TV series Boardwalk Empire. Season 3 finished a month or so ago in the US and was available via Pirating shortly after each episode aired. QFX currently offers Season 1 & 2 but not 3.

Content creators want to hold that back to the Australian market to maximize their profits. Personally, I would pay to see SE 3 at the same time as it is released in another part of the world. I am not not able to, so I take the path of least resistance.

Being a content producer myself this causes a dilemma but it is not new. Previously and still DVD's where shared around the industry but as this was relatively small group this didn't affect revenue.

IMO, the only way to beat or nullify pirating is to join them - offer all content for sale/hire as it is premiered in the world. The future is about niche audiences and keeping costs low, eg. production and marketing while keeping quality high. (unlike say the McDonald's business model which assumes low cost means low quality)

Content creators cannot hold back the flood by sticking a finger in the dyke - better to join the party. There's money to be made when they change their position.

QFX should looking net streaming for future revenues or someone else will/is. :)
