Re your link to: http://ipa.org.au/publications/2080/be-like-gough-75-radical-ideas-to-transform-australia
Thanks for posting the link to that article - it makes for an interesting read.
In summary, the authors propose a reform agenda of the magnitude of that implemented by Gough Whitlams's governments. It sounded pretty much like a firesale to foreign interests to be kept out of the public's limelight.
It was unedifyingly self-indulgent on the rights of non-public media.
In essence, the authors propose massive expansion of the 'private sector' into the public domain; asserting that the private sector always does it better, is able and willing to put up the capital and always acts in the best interests of society.
As if!
That's NOT the record of the private sector in Australia. For example, many global investors have preferred to put in their dough for what they can extract; preferably quickly and opportunistically, albeit with some fantastic exceptions!
Despite my critique, it was good to see the authors provoke the issue of significant reforms to provide a more sophisticated, productive and dynamic Australia that is less of a nanny state than it has become these past 2 decades.
