I couldn't agree with you more dopey2. This sends a powerful message to bouncers that they can do what they like and the law will be on their side. Hopefully the Hookes family will make the pub and the bouncer pay with their planned civil suit.

I have seen several bouncers carry on with things well outside the venues that they are controlling. In Sydney, one morning I heard the sound of someone getting hit. When I looked there was someone flat out on Darlinghurst Road and there were three big bouncers from the pub. There was metal railing between the councers and the guy that one of them hit. In Perth, I saw a bunch of bouncers racing after some man who was running away from them. Did that guy do something that required a civil arrest or were the bouncers just on an ego trip? That's just what I have personally seen. It certainly supports the many things that I have been told have happenned regarding "over-enthusiastic" bouncers.

To be fair, I have met many good bouncers that just make sure that things do get out of hand and either calm things down or just remove of the disrupting influence then walk away regardless of the resulting taunts coming their way.
