"Before anyone jumps on me I admit to have joined the fray and on occasions have responded in kind."
Don't we all :)
Happy New Year Eags!
If we think about it for a moment most are passionate to their persuasion, be it Lib,Lab or cough cough Green :)
We become like the politicians we commentate on.
Thoughtful and considerate at times but more often than not we are more interested in supporting our own bias whether by fair means or foul. Sounding more and more like those rotten politicians we discuss each day.
We all like to construct a reasonable argument that supports our beliefs and when that doesn't work we try the one-upmanship and when that fails to hit the home run, the gloves come off and we test the mods resolve :)
I think we all have to agree that it can be fun (or else we wouldn't do it). It can be frustrating (hence we take a break from it, either voluntary or otherwise) and it is popular (or else HC would have killed off the forum)
My issue has never been with any of the above. I think it disappointing when some posters from both sides can only contribute with jibes without at least first having made an attempt at reasonable discussion/debate. After all that is what true politics is about. In the house they start off with some degree of reason before it falls into a mudslinging/hating cesspit so it is only fair that the HC political forum follows the same decorum. :)
I guess at least we remain anonymous. The poor pollies don't have that luxury lol
