    Chrysalis,

The Armenian population of the Ottoman state was reported at about two million in 1915. An estimated one million had perished by 1918

Board statements like this can be very misleading.
Every one perishes, it's how and when they perish that counts.

The first assumption one makes, on first reading, is that they were put to the sword or the like.

Just imagine doing a population count in 1915, then add a margin of error, then keep in mind hostilities and what the population does, just look at recent events Iraq, Libya & Syria, they, the civilians, head for the border, any border will do, and then there is those with money and influence and able to emigrate.

Then there are those people that believe that they are able to survive the turmoil by other means than heading for the border, name change, religion change, local address change, etc.

Tracking these people in 1915 would have been next to impossible.

Then do it all again in 1918.

One needs the names and address of all those missing people before it can be called a fact. Imagine going to the police station to report that a 100 people are missing from your suburb, what would be the first question you would be asked.

    I notice your link:

    http://www.armenian-genocide.org/genocide.html

I'm sure if you look, there are sites on the net with a less bias view.

It pay to look at all sides of a story or all you have is just that, a story.

    A decimation is = to a reduction of 10%, so 90% survive.
