I have been to Gove many years ago and a idealic tropical paradise. Every business is a one off.
If the mine were to close and 800 jobs would be lost directly but the whole town would self implode as the rest of the town is alive based around the mine, rather symbiotic. In the late 80's the Toyota dealership sold for $2 million dollars.
All the land that all the homes and businesses are built on are leasehold that the mine has to the traditional owners so once the mine moves out it becomes a ghost town.
The mine has been very profitable in the past due to the closeness of the mine to the port facility.
