The main reason I pointed out the relationship between this particular stock and gold, is that many gold bulls have been waiting for the gold stocks to "de couple" from the stock market, and were badly punished during the GFC.
Of course people with cash were able to pick up quality companies like SLR almost for free, and what an amazing return that has been for them!
When another bear market comes around it is still unclear to me whether gold will rise during any de leverageing, and if so will the gold stocks go up with the gold price like they did in the 1970s.
With some of the headwinds facing gold miners like declining ore grades globally, lack of multi million ounce mine discoveries in STABLE regions etc, i have some doubts, but i will let the stock price decide in the end.
You brought up excellent points about issues that are affecting mining companies, and I have read your posts in the past and can see you are very well researched re. mining companies.
