I may have missed something here but why would MEO have any impact on Goves desires for gas when there will be gas in Darwin from other sources already available ?
PRIME Minister Julia Gillard has formally opened the $34 billion Ichthys liquefied natural gas project in Darwin today. Citing economic growth, low unemployment, low inflation, a budget coming back into surplus and more than $450 billion of projects in the investment pipeline, Ms Gillard said "this is truly a remarkable time in the Australian economy."
"It is a time for those who are big on optimism, big on vision and big of heart," with the project part of a resources boom that is changing the nation, she said.
The Ichthys project will haul gas from a field in the Browse Basin offshore Western Australia to an onshore liquefaction plant in Darwin via an 889-kilometer subsea pipeline. The project is expected to start production by the end of 2016, with annual output of 8.4 million metric tons at its peak.
