OK a thick shale can provide it's own seal but background gas could indicate a less effective seal on the formations below than hoped , or it could indicate the drill is on the periphery of a reservoir .
The background gas could have been self-generated by the rocks which are being penetrated rather than rocks underneath it .
At this stage I don't think we can read anything into it . This is essentially wildcat exploration in an underexplored basin .
This is only an initial 3 drill program . Even if all 3 drills come up with disappointing results that doesn't mean NSE and CP will write it off .
We will just have to wait and see .
