Am I missing soemthing here, or is this recent alqueda declaration of war against shiites in Iraq just yet another sign of how desperate these few remaining alqueda and associated terrorist groups have become?

Unable to gain much local support, the alqueda strategy seems to be to somehow cause an outbreak of open religious warfare between various factions of the moslem community.

As I recall, there was a news release a few months ago from some captured alqueda correspondence that detailed this strategy as one they would attempt to follow as a desperate last ditch measure in the case where they deemed their position as hopeless.

It seems that the alqueda leadership have decided that their position in Iraq in indeed hopeless and are going forward to see if they can somehow gain from success from this desperate last measure.

Would seem that it is quite likely that alqueda days in Iraq are numbered.
