    funny comparisons....
Albury automatically has sufficient tourists passing through, since it is on the main Sydney to Melbourne highway.
Versus Wollongong, where they have to detour off the track to get there. I thought Wollongong was an industrial city, regardless if it is on the coast.

If it were me, I would simply keep going to Sydney. I could not imagine taking a detour to go to Wollongong.

That article seems to be tit for tat between the mayors of each place, and probably looking for tourist dollar handouts from the NSW govnut.

Funny most people I know who visit the country areas as tourists are not looking for the same things, that they can find in the city.
I would never consider the Murray River as a swimming pool, all rivers are dangerous, thats why they provide council run swimming pools. The river is great for fishing, and boating, as is the weir.

The original thread was started as it was voted as a place for families to live in, not a tourist destination.
Families spend their spare time involved in sports and hobbies, they entertain at home. Taking the family out for dinner, the movies or whatever, is well catered for.

My understanding of families living in the cities today, is the kids all have their own tv in their rooms, together with a full on home entertainment system, of games and pc's. They rarely spend their time outside, they are glued to screens. The parents are too stressed, and too poor, paying off massive mortgages, that they dont have time to spend with the family, let alone having a hobby, or sports that involves the whole family.
And when this family does take a holiday, they head to Disneyland on the Gold Coast, or similar style fantasy island. Or the others take the family camping, in the bush. Yuk
They rarely take time to head for the beach, except in heat wave conditions.
I am probably too busy, to dream of lazing around the beach, watching the waves, or sweltering in the heat.

We are talking about families here, rather than the young singles.
