The answer is rather that they wanted to make the right explicit rather than implicit, where it is easier to argue away later on when everyone has forgotten the reasons for it.

The fundamental reason for the right to bear arms is as an expression of the relationship of the individual to the state.
People long ago, who fought for the rights many of us take for granted(and are willing to piss them away for nothing)knew about human nature and how an armed citizenry is the ultimate equalizer against tyrannical government.
A disarmed citizenry invites arrogant government.
Read a bit of history and you see. Every feudal society disarms its proles, same with the Bolshiviks and similar.
