Her birth father, William Pennell, held the office of Consul-General to Brazil while her adoptive father, John Wilson Croker, was Secretary to the Admiralty. Her husband, Sir George Barrow, became 2nd Baronet Barrow, of Ulverstone, co. Lancaster
