Because TLS shares have appreciated so much in a short space of time, I'm in the predicament that I need to realise the capital gain now to keep the Tax liability at a reasonable level. If I wait another few years; and if, of course, TLS shares keep rising the way it has, I will be up for one massive Capital Gains Tax(CGT) bill. I really don't want to be handing over the profits, that I took all the risk on, to the wicked sheriff of Nottingham.
Best to realise it now; then hope the price drops a bit after the ex-dividend date; then buy back in.
CGT is such an insidious tax aimed at long term (greater than 12months) investors, it really makes planing for future very difficult.
