If there was greater availability of rigs , time etc , wouldn't they just start again with a new hole rather than attempt to reuse a piddling 900m of drilling , cemented casing and surface infrastructure ?

Isn't a side-tracked well more likely to get stuck than one which goes straight down ?

Any idea how many degrees the side track would deviate from the vertical ?
