what part don't people get?, page-3

It seems that people, for the most part, either don't give a damn, or think they know better than the people who spend their lives investigating these issues.

It's no different to vaccination - every expert on the topic overwhelmingly agree that the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks, but a small percentage of the population refuses to vaccinate themselves or their children, either due to a complete disregard for the safety of themselves and those in their community, misinformation, ignorance, or a belief that they know better than everyone else or that they are immortal. The result is that people die of preventable illnesses.

Compare that to speeding: The experts on the topic all agree that hoon activities are incredibly dangerous, but a small percentage of the population continues to speed, either due to disregard for the safety of themselves and those in their community, misinformation, ignorance, or a belief that they know better than everyone else or that they are immortal. The result is that people die in preventable car crashes.

At least people are fined for speeding and would go to jail if they were hooning and killed a child. With vaccination? "Oops. I shouldn't have done that".

My 2c. I'll also say that one of those road deaths in WA this year was a friend of mine. He wasn't speeding.
