GZ...if you want to do desert...head south to Oman...Cheap flight from Dubai, or take a bus.....Far as I'm concerned - best place in the Middle East. You can pick up a reasonable rental car in Muscat....good roads...not a lot of traffic....and the best scenery in the region. And explore to your heart's content...deserts, mountains, fantastic beaches (renting a 4WD may help access)...just dead-set a friendly spectacular place....very few in the world anymore. This is a very special place... There was some talk of Oman doing retirement visas for Western expats...If it happens at some stage....I am very interested.....
