I've been hit with a tax bill at 15% for my SMSF earnings even though I'm no longer working (earning income). If my money was out of super I'd at least have my own tax free threshold of about $18K to offset any income. So not in every case is super all its cracked up to be, it only applies when your income is relatively high, and I'm still under 60 so I'm being taxed very highly. Super has become a marginal product that no longer serves its intended purpose.
