Yeh, I know everyone's situation varies, and I only had interest from a term deposit because it generated a positive return, rather than equities where there has been more risk. In my own circumstances though my personal tax free threshold would have meant earnings outside of super would have been taxed 60% less than inside super. I have heard of people leaving super for that very reason and with some of the proposed changes it makes super less attractive again. Circumstances can vary so much even though you may think doing what other people are doing sound good but it may not be the right thing for yourself. For me the only advantage will be in a few years on turning 60, then it does become tax free providing they don't change that as well?
