Butcher: I am not a climate change denier. I acknowledge the very, very clear evidence that the climate changes, and has dramatically changed for hundreds of millions of years. I also acknowledge that any change we make to the atmosphere will change the climate. What I dispute (and all climate scientists agree with me) is that the climate change we are observing is entirely caused by humans. No climate scientists believe that the climate would not be changing without human interference, but that is the popular belief among laymen. I dispute the notion that anthropogenic climate change is going to be catastrophic, and that's not something all climate scientists agree on. I dispute that the current rate of climate change is greater than ever before. All climate scientists know that the climate changed at greater rates many times before humans existed. My view is that the human:natural ratio of influence on climate change is close to the high natural end of the spectrum of what climate scientists report. My view is actually not that crazy by scientific measure even if it is crazy by what the media implies and certainly by what the average laymen thinks the scientists are saying. I've actually worked in science labs and side by side with scientists on climate analysis.

In any case, to dismiss what someone thinks because you disagree with something else they think is unwise.

Strider: Of course I understand the concept of breakthrough. Are you familiar with the concepts of scam, sucker, companies making unsubstantiated claims to make money, using your power of reasoning to determine what is most likely true, etc.? Tell me, which is more common... breakthroughs or false claims of breakthroughs? When something sounds too good to be true, is it usually true? When genuine breakthroughs occur, people take notice and get excited. They don't ignore the fact for a few years. If AEB had the technology to produce green, renewable oil at half the price of conventional crude, they would have had absolutely no trouble at all getting hundreds of millions (probably billions) of dollars of government funding.

I see no raincloud over my head, I see one over AEB and her holders ;)

Obviously I'm going to be unpopular around here if I think a company you're all invested in is a bad investment, so your negativity doesn't surprise or worry me, even if your blindfolds frustrate me a little. I suspect you'll hate me even more down the track when I say "I told you so" (and yeah, I'll probably stoop to that level ;) ).
