industry was privately owned in Germany I believe whereas in USSR it was state owned, but the governments themselves - despite that ideological difference - were so extreme and warped that they almost met one another coming from different political directions.

Off topic but if it weren't for the influence of America both terrible regimes would have ruled nearly all of Europe for many many decades. America is far from perfect but consider the alternatives at the time!
