boatboy, whether the fibre network will be more or less reliable than copper network, remains to be seen.

The initial free option for the NBN is for a connection point to your home, you do not have to connect or use that connection point once installed.
If you opt out of having the connection point installed during the roll out, and change your mind down the track, you will have to pay for the connection point yourself to be installed.
There is no reason to opt out of installing a connection point during the roll out. Though I'm sure some will.

I use Telstra wireless Internet when we loose power and when traveling, with mixed success.

One of the benefits of the NBN is it will help wireless become more accessible throughout Australia.

A Telstra investor previously here on HC raised concerns about the NBN making it easier for competitors of Telstra to set up competing wireless networks.

As far as who to believe in regards to the NBN, political based views for and against will always be bias, as will others who have a vested interest commercially.

There is an enormous amount of non political information out there you can use to investigate and verify claims made for and against the NBN.

There is a lot of misinformation out there, so it pays to verify some of the claims.
