"The private sector has grown the telecommunication capabilities immensely in Australia. Speeds have come a very long way. Competition was building. We'd finally broken the Telstra monopoloy"
----
Picture this scenario.
I live in a street in Brisbane that has Telstra cable. I want cable, not wireless or ADSL (my house is many kms away from the nearest exchange) as the non-cable options are not up to scratch for my needs, competition to date delivers me these retail options for cable:
(a) Telstra (b) Telstra (c) Telstra (d) Telstra
On the other hand, NBN will give me the option of fiber optic (a better option than cable) but with plenty retail options.
