algaegirl: As you say, it's a similar issue to what has caused many previous civilisations to fall. I'm sure many in those civilisations were in denial too. Unfortunately, when you have multiple nations competing for resources it's even more inevitable than when individual people are competing for resources. Everyone acknowledges we're living unsustainably. Even if we came up with some miracle invention it would only buy us some time (I'd be thrilled with that and don't think it's out of the question). Unless it can buy us enough time to either relocate people to terraformed worlds (unlikely) or enough time to come together as a global population and agree to limit our population to a sustainable level (heh, way below unlikely), a global collapse is inevitable. Perpetual growth is not sustainable. Human population continues to grow basically unchecked. It's already ridiculous and is rapidly becoming ever increasingly ridiculous. How anyone can fail to see global collapse coming is beyond me. Calling me defeatist is like two people who have fallen off a cliff, one flapping their arms expecting to learn to fly before hitting the ground, and calling the other defeatist for not trying, while the one not flapping enjoys the ride down.

You're right, the planet is resilient, and I don't think life will be exterminated. Not even humans will, I hope. I'm sure there will be future cilivisations on this planet after this one falls.

Kazi: You sure did! Haha! :)

    It's Mr. Sdaji

I briefly looked at your link, there's nothing new to me in it. The concept of the physics of cold fusion is comfortably within my grasp, but the viability of the reaction is completely beyond my knowledge of physics, I studied it for one year at uni, and it was way beyond the grasp of my lecturers. My understanding is that the patent was rejected on the basis that it hasn't been proven and experts said it violates the laws of physics (I can't vouch for the accuracy of that information). I've heard (perhaps just unsubstantiated rumours) that a trial plant is being built. I greatly doubt this technology is genuine, but if it or some other form of cold fusion is discovered it will utterly revolutionise the energy industry. It will probably make all other forms of large scale electricity production obsolete and give us as much cheap electricity as we need. That wouldn't necessarily remove our need for oil, but it would certainly lessen it hugely, possibly allow us to create synthetic alternatives and certainly buy us more time to continue with our current civilisation as long as we don't go to war anyway. It's definitely the piece of hypothetical technology with the best potential to serve our species at this point (at least among things which are plausible). If they do invent cold fusion I'll lose a heap of money (it'll also kill algae oil, so kiss AEB goodbye), but I'll be thrilled for what it means for our species.

'Why aren't they doing it yesterday?' is only part of my doubt, but yes, it's a doubt. You raise some further points. Australia is not especially into green energy, other countries are right into it. Why is it then, that some little company in Australia has come so far beyond what giant companies in green energy loving nations have managed?

If the results are as good as the company reports suggest, don't worry, you'll get your government following, financial support, etc., and a rocket under the share price.

Strider: Of course I scored no points. If I was trying to score points around here I'd be talking about how the climate is about to turn the planet into a scorching oven but AEB was going to save the day and turn us all into billionaires.

Cool, so fifty cents by year end. I'll go for sub fifteen. It's difficult to predict the next 6-12 months, I think, and a rise at some point wouldn't surprise me, it could happen for several reasons, but end of next year I think is clearer and we'll see sub five cents. My price predictions only and of course they're not advice or anything, don't buy, sell or take any action because of what I say, etc. disclaimer etc., but it'll be interesting to come back and see how we go this January and next.

How much longer are planes burning crude? Until there isn't a plane left in the sky I'd wager. Certainly for a good while yet.

Skydiving was great, thanks! :) Knocked over B-rel 8, four more jumps until I get my skydiving B license.

Though he is ignoring me, I'll respond to dolcevita because his accusations of slander are slanderous. If you want to accuse me of accusing people of lying, you should actually read what I've said! Goodness. If there is any doubt, let me make it clear that I am certainly not accusing anyone of lying. I think they are mistaken if they think they can make algae oil for half the price of crude, but I do not wish to question their honesty, and I am absolutely happy to be shown that they are correct. I've acknowledged this possibility, and have said that if it turns out their apparently optimistic projections are accurate, I'll be buying in. I don't believe they are right, but even if they're not, that doesn't make them liars. Hey, they may be lying, I don't know, only they do, I'm not making that accusation. I acknowledge all possibilities, that doesn't mean I try to convince everyone that they're all absolutely true even if I describe one. I've repeatedly said throughout the AEB discussions that I don't have facts so nothing I say about the company should be taken as fact, it's just my speculation and guesswork. I'm sure I haven't, but if I've implied that I know the directors are lying I'll point out that it wasn't my intention. I don't know if they're lying con men, paragons of virtue, delusional, genii, crazy madmen or any combination.

If anyone thinks I've directly accused the directors of lying, please point it out to me and I'll clarify.

I suspect the empty accusation was just made to try to scare me off, but you obviously misunderstand things. Also, if everyone was to put me on ignore I wouldn't own this place, I'd be ignored and not bother posting. Don't worry, the majority of people posting about companies will always be positive about the company, it makes sense.

As I repeatedly say, DYOR, don't take any of this as advice or fact, don't make any decisions based on my words, I'm just chatting and you shouldn't take any of it as something to be acted on or taken seriously, and various other stuff along those lines.
