Stockrocker
I don't want to compare BRU and CTP. I don't want to give more detail about CTP here either, Two reasons; Firstly, this is NSE thread I can't talk much about CTP, secondly, I will buy CTP when the time comes but most of my funds are tied up with NSE. Therefore I honestly don't want to give much information about CTP till I buy in. As you may aware I never try to downramp as stock for buying it. I only wish and pray for it to come down if I want to buy in.
Why it is one of biggest oil discovery in Australia: You can see that CTP Surprise-1 well discovery is about 50m barrel of oil. (The oil reservoirs in western Amadeus should be much bigger than Ungani type structures) They barely scratched the surface at that area. They give all details clearly. Others don't give the details of structures. CTP is very clear about that. The 50m barrel was only for a avarage size anticline (divided by a fault) over their primary target. There is more oil at the other side of the fault. You can see the details on one of their anns. Moreover, there is huge shale oil in the same area. Same of Goldwyer. They haven't drilled that target yet. The problem with CTP is they do the things very slow (e.g. Surprise Project is going through development analysis with development targeted for Q4 2013, and production is planned for Q2 2014, however reserve certification is very close)
Most importantly, NSE's Goldwyer project and CTP's West Amadeus projects are mainly about the same Ordovician shales. My theory is this; whatever find in Western Amadeus is going to be the same for Eastern Canning by a high probability.
I gave a lot of information about the that Larapintine Seaway theories (open seaway) that it was wrong. Canning and Amadeus basins which are neighbour basins were not connected at Ordovician time, but they were both closed embartments which is better environment for organic matter and hydrocarbon accumulations.
Amadeus might be a little bit better for the accumulated organic matter as the water in that area was warmer then Canning at Ordovician time. However Kidson basin is better in terms of geological structures as it has been disturbed very little by the other folding and faulting type of after the Ordovician time. That means there should be hydrocarbon accumulation in a huge area of Kidson basin. (You can see that already a fault line divides the CTP's Surprise anticline)
