getting back to the original post.

watso had the same quandary a few months ago - watso's 10 year old computer was on its last legs - but that 10 year old computer cost $1000 - compared to a computer a couple of years earlier, which cost about $2000.

from memory, the $2000 computer had a 4gb hard drive - and watso forgets the ram - but eventually was pleased with himself, when he bought a 128mb ram chip from the markets, for about $128 - and watso passed down his ram chips, to the kids computers.

ohhh, the $1000 computer came with a 40gb hard drive (ok - not sure - but it could have been 80gb) - it could be that watso was ecstatic, that the computer also came with 256mb of ram.

the moral of the story, is that todays cheap computer, leaves for dead, the expensive computer of a few years ago - so just buy a computer, that meets your needs - and keep it for 10 years.

watso's first internet computer cost about $1000 - but that was 15 years ago, and used windows 3 - or something like that - but to load the computer, took about 30 disks - and the comforting spiel for the sale, was that the computer could be upgraded with more ram - which would keep the computer up to date for years to come... yeah yeah yeah - the ram chips were in 16mb chips (??) and cost a fortune.

aghhh for the good old days, when a 28 inch colour tv cost a few weeks wages - and weighed a ton - but now a 40 inch tv, costs a couple of days wages - and weighs nothing
