share consolidation

Could someone please give me an idea at what stage a share consolidation generally happens.i understand generally it would be .001 but in ggps case they have 100 millions of con notes to be converted and they need to provide a market for these to be absorbed.is it generally 10-1 or 50-1.spent a while looking today at the correlation between sp and issuing of cleansing statements and 3 b.i wish i had looked 6 months ago.might have saved myself a few dollars.
The lesson learnt from my investment with ggp has been,never invest in a stock using convertible notes or a Stock associated with novus.is comparible to having terminal cancer,you know the day is coming but you just dont know when
