greenleaf and slipping - i think you both may have a point and i did wonder why the strongish price reaction on a weak day!
i think it would not take much fantasy to see cop and petro make a joint bid to tidy up nse - or even cop take them out!
i know we all speculate from time to time, and many long term holders would hate the idea!
however, i think the likelihood has increased markedly (look at aoe and bow etc in qld with joint takeovers by majors); but the timing of such a move is tricky to work out - do they wait for a bit more resource security, act now whilst share price cheap; or stall, wait it out, and then strike, when shareholders are jacked off with lack of progress!
the stalling would not be to get it cheaper , but just to make a takeover more likely to be successful!
