First up you draw a link between the writer of the Bible and the numbering system. You should see them as distinctly different things - the Bible was written by many individuals over a period of time, the numbering (reference) system was added separately - much later.
To create a numbering system that blends in perfectly with a literary text the size of the bible, after the event is a physical and mathematical impossibility.
Consistancy throughout could not by any stretch of the imagination, be accomplished.
Any mathematician would establish that fact relatively quickly.
