The alternatives to the numbering system being added post script are:-
*The numbering system came first - that would mean the blanks were filled in, a bit like painting by numbers. Who could have seen decades and centuries in advance what was to be written by different people in different locations by precise quantity over such a time frame?
*The numbering system took place as the writings occured. This would mean the ducument was handed around to numerous people over the decades and centuries as they added their bit. Inconceivable seeing as how there is so much conflict in adjacent passages and the size of the document.
*Many Miracles occured over the centuries with a voice telling each scribe what his allotted numbers were. Quite a feat when some of the passages would have been written at the same time.
