Being held by ASIC instead of the bank is the rub. My bank HSBC closes accounts if no activity for 24 months. They write to you and they transfer money to an active account or send you a cheque. If ASIC gets hold of it you can kiss it goodbye. Would have to jump through a lot of hoops to ever get it back.
