Gerry - another point too: Beattie has been VERY quiet about this, and instead has allowed his Minister for Mining fly the kite by restating their policy. This means that he is sniffing the political wind - ?looking for a political windfall? :)
Tony McGrady is the member for the Mt Isa area which is where SMM is, and he has also stated he does not want uranium mining there - but - he is now the Speaker of the House in Qld, so has no political vote any more.
Now we have the President of one of the most powerful unions pressuring Premier Pete to allow uranium mining - Bill Ludwig, one of the ALP power-brokers here in Qld.
One can't help feel that it is only a matter of time.......
