I would certainly agree with your view that "people detest Abbott" and it seems to be a quite well justified position based on Abbott's lies, deception and stonewalling coupled with his proven absolute incompetence, cringeworthly and embarassing unstuitability for the PM slot and his apparent distain for the Australian people...

However Gillard is and has been the victim of a sustained and disgraceful campaign of personal destruction orchestrated and conducted by Abbott's massive army of propagandists...

We saw one of the many examples of this ongoing campaign of lies used to smear Gillard with Tony Abbott's insane, unhinged, spit-hurling, screeching rant attemtping to label the PM a lyer and for daring to criticize and point out the shorcomings and failings of Abbotts flawed policies

Abbott's rant was so obviously insane and off the mark that he even had his handlers desperately struggling to redefine the him to attempt to cover the complete and incredible insanity of Abbott's claim...

Any apparent poll-derived "unpopularity" of Gilard is primarily a media construct and part of Abbott's disgraceful campaign of personal destruction of Gillard from a corrupt, Right wingers infiltrated media to deny the Australian people an effective and workable government under the highly qualified and effective Gillard led labor government...

I could almost follow that but the praise for Gillard in that is a bit over the top
