bacci - the story of King Canute is an interesting one. Apparently there are at least two interpretations of his gesture.
The traditional one is that he tried to turn the tide back and of course failed.
The other interpretation is that he was trying to demonstrate to his noblity that humans have limited or no power versus nature.
