    kincella what sort of damaged parts do you mean, self made or in the table before. Sometimes just wear and tear marks give it the antique look. For deep scores or holes keep the saw dust from sanding. Add a bit of polyurethane to the saw dust to make a very thick paste and blade into the affected area. Let dry and sand off as this will be the closest filler match to the timber you can get. Learnt that from a floor sanding guy years ago, there paint is really fast dry so he would fill the holes before the final sand and it dries rock hard.
    Painting anything is not easy and the more you do the easier it becomes and you learn new tricks every day.
