The short version on why they push it down instead of letting it run.

Lets assume they the SM decide to take a position on LYC. They will have an allocation or a certain amount of shares they are chasing. They will continue to suppress the SP until they reach that number. They will do this by all means necessary to achieve there goal and acquired number of shares. Disinformation, shorting ect.

Now lets not forget if there making money on the way down, they dont care how low the price goes. They have already decided that they want a stake in the said company so if there making money on the way down they will continue to do that.

How ever a few things can happen,
    1. they can only suppress a SP for so long. if it really is a potential winner, ultimately momentum will prevent them from pushing it down futher and it will turn and they will run with what they have.

    2. Another large party may be ahead of them and already reached there required number of shares and start pushing it higher. When this happens the entity with the biggest pockets will win.

Ultimately if they are accumulating this will run hard, but the risk of sitting and holding while this happens is Your buy in price that you have been holding since $1.50 or $2.00 will most probably be there unloading target. Thats why Mitta and others profess to trade with the SM. If your time frame is 10 years its just all noise and i guess you wouldnt be reading this anyways.
