The stage is set:
a low interest environment
an aging population
government meddling in superannuation
an equity market that has a history of poor returns
superannuates looking for security and a better return take chances.
No doubt about it this is a huge, largely unregulated market that will grow and grow and in near terms when interest rates rise those fringe funds will undoubtedly offer outrageous investments.
What will it take for the government to regulate these funds? possibly thousands of investors loosing billions of dollars that the government must pick up via aged pensions.
You need a sharp stick to prod a mule.
