I think you're spot on there Alan. If ever I've seen anything unsavoury in Australian cricket, it was the way they went about making Hughes' job as difficult as possible.

As for the current state of Australian cricket....well, let's just hope the powers that be, have learned a lesson from prematurely annointing a young twenty something year old as the next Australian captain, clearly before he's done what's required to earn the job, as was the case with Michael Clarke. They have created problems for Clarke, I believe, probably as substantial as the problems he's created for himself. Such a silly move by the seniority associated with the Australian XI.

It immediately deprived other players of their aspirations (as distant and unlikely as they may have been), caused Clarke to lose a bit of perspective about himself imo, put the spotlight on Clarke too early, caused resentment with other players etc etc.. The dyed hair, the ink, the model girlfriend, the very expensive sports car etc, all helped to tell the story of Clarke.

That silly move by CA people has been the catalyst for the current woes if you ask me. The consequential fallout of doing that is hard to measure, but I believe it has been very big indeed.
