lucas re: isidoro bid to destabilise indonesia: pm lucas, I agree with you on how the scenario is likely to be seen by those hoping to implement a pan -Asian Islaminic state, however there are many obstacles in the way, not the least moderate Indonesians. In sheer numbers those Indonesians who historically oppose the imposition of an Islamic state are many times the total Australian population, and the same may apply in countries neighbouring Indonesia. Whilst Indonesia is generally seen as a poor country, it also has a large percentage of the population who are middle class and above, and despite the recent economic problems there, it is apparent that they are enjoying increasing affluence. These are the people who are both going to provide the oppostion to any radical moves within Indonesia succeeding and also suffer the greatest.
In Australia the attacks are perceived as being against our society, yet there is no logic for them to attack us whilst the greatest opposition is still domestic Indonesian opinion. Indonesians see the attacks from a different perspective to us and have no doubt about who the intended target is.
Apparently those planning these attacks were intending to concentrate more on purely domestic targets as it was felt that their message was being confused domestically when foreigners were involved. In this respect these attacks on Bali have not followed the anticipated planning.
