Business is business.
A few years ago RIO was on the "bones of its ass" and the only people that would help were the Chinese (of course for there benefit)- they did a deal to fund RIO by taking a placement and direct stakes in mines from memory.
Slight improvement in markets and RIOs tell the Chinese to "get lost" we dont need you now because we can now go to our shareholders.
What goes around comes around.
They are shrewd, calculating and generational long term thinkers and investors - in short they are better business men than their western contemporaries who are more focussed on a quarterly report.
If this deal falls over - do you really think the Chinese save face with the Africans, to the contrary especially given all the undertakings that you could quite reasonably expect to have occurred behind the scenes.
Either way - doesnt help SDL holders
