Whether a sufferer of depression would find Latham's comments offensive would depend on the individual. It's not a homogenous condition. I experienced clinical depression in 2003 and view it simply as my subconscious trying to tell me something. I don't find Latham's comments offensive: Part of being depressed is a form of indulgent hyper sensitivity.... being bothered by the inconsequential. For anyone out there suffering depression a good book on the subject is: "Depression: The Way Out Of You Prison" by Dorothy Rowe. I found it quite insightful in terms of understanding the nuances of how a depressed person thinks. It made me view my own experience more as comedy than tragedy... something that many depression sufferers need rather than the earnest gravity which they tend to inflict on themselves and receive from others.
