I think he was sacked because he kept deriding the hosts of Sky News programs. He's at various times got stuck right into Chris Kenny, Paul Kelly and Richo, all of whom are hosts or regular guests on Sky News proagrams. Having him ridicule the hosts of their programs wasn't good for their corporate image. It doesn't help Sky News as a corporate entity when they have Richo hosting one of their programs and on another program they have Latham saying something like: "Oh yeah, I remember Richo, he's the guy who introduced Eddie Obeid to the Labor party, enjoyed rooting prostitutes on the Love Boat, and rumour has it he profitted handsomely from the Jewish stocktake at Offset Alpine."

What's farcical about the whole thing is that it comes a week after News Limited filled the air with righteous indignation over free speech. A commentator on one of their programs exercises a bit of free speech, and suddenly he's excised from his position. Their version of free speech extends to corporate sucks willing to tow the company line and not a centimetre further.
