I posted this last week but has now been wiped on reversion to old HC:
Last week Greg Seeto rang me back after i left a ‘please explain SP’ message with receptionist.
Beyond their standard asx response, he had very little to say re SP movement other than ‘we copped the brunt of market’.
We spoke about costs & commissioning. Whilst he could not give me anything juicy, he did say that he can’t see any impediment to their commissioning report and costing which will come out around mid month and 3rd week as usual.
We discussed the column chart on page 3 of their recent commissioning update showing production and grade. Whilst he was careful not to divulge anything or speculate, I did come away with the firm opinion that the next report we will see grades and production increasing along trend.
Greg also mentioned the obvious expectation that as production increases, costs come down (other factors held constant!). So I await two pleasing reports and have topped up accordingly- hopefully the market doesn’t smack us around too much in the meantime..
My two grunts on the recent SP movement: After the sharp fall after Cathay Fortune incident, we found a bottom in March with a few pleasing announcements- these announcements gave us some respite from the broader copper sell-off, essentially spring-loading last week’s sell down. When compared with, say PNA we have performed on par with a good quality, profitable producer- the squiggly worm just took a different path.
