I feel the same as you some time
I married into a Thai family.
Thats actually a Thia/Chinese family and my wife is an accountant, 5 feet and two inches of rusty razor blades and the kindest sweetest smile and demenour and most philanthropic smile I have ever seen.
All with a mind like a steel trap with tungston tipped blades.
I digress too..........
With the Thai, when things go wrong they simply go down to the local temple and start praying.
It seem to work for them.
The whole thing about the stock market is that its not the stock market that gets you there.
Its time, place and situation.
I was in Bangkok last year, at the airport, with a geologist mate.
His telephone rang and he took a call while I got our bags out of the unloader thingy mcgibbee.
He told me a certain stock had just taken a hit with a Ni/Cu find and we should by into it at 7 (bloody) cents a share.
Oh yeah............ 7 cents, 7/100ths of an Orstraylein dollar....
Give me just one Thai Baht for every time I heard that one and my wife would be a wealthy woman.
Any way, I dallied around Bangkok doing some essential re-lax-ing with the family.
By the time I got back to Perth ASX:SIR was nudging 90 cents and the leverage in the deal was waning.
The whole point is time, place and situation.
Not about the stock market but about life in general.
True, by circumstance we can be handed success but when we go looking for it, its all hard work.
But one thing I have watched and has demonstrated an invaluable lesson is, IS, IS!, that mining is a cycle, both in the macro and micro.
Choose the company, understand the risks, and understand the cycle.
For example, the gold producers kicking off in 2008-2009 had a huge advantage.
They road the the investing market perfectly.
Rising gold price, rising share price.........as the company moved into production, manifest an EV and cash flow, and offered a return on the risk investment that is very much gold mining.
As the CEO of IDC once said, its all about selecting the right cycle of opportunity.
All the indicators are that IDC have got this one right for 2014-2015 in terms of gold.
In my personal view, there is a compelling case that IDC will follow in the path of SLR and the others graduates from the Class of 2009.
Ok, but don't forget to DYOR.
