More copper woes at Gullewa

Monday, September 20, 2004 BATAVIA Mining has deferred a feasibility study at its Gullewa gold-copper project by six months after receiving inconsistent metallurgical results from oxide resource testwork.
Once again the copper part of the project has proved problematic. The company is now reviewing all metallurgical testwork to determine the most appropriate future approach, as well as the potential for conducting a trial heap leach on oxide stockpiles to remove the copper to an acceptable grade prior to treating the gold through the existing CIL treatment plant.
Batavia took over at Gullewa after the previous operator Menzies Gold suffered cashflow problems following the unplanned treatment of ore containing copper. The copper in the process circuit prevented the recovery of gold.
