U.S. stock futures climb on solid retail sales Thu Oct 6, 2005 08:25 AM ET (Updates to reflect futures higher) NEW YORK, Oct 6 (Reuters) - U.S. stock futures turned sharply higher on Thursday as Wall Street breathed a sigh of relief that monthly sales reports from major retailers were better than expected, easing fears of storm-related disruptions.
S&P 500 futures (SPZ5: Quote, Profile, Research) were up 2.3 points, above fair value, a mathematical model that evaluates their pricing by taking into account interest rates, dividends and time to expiration on the contract.
Dow Jones industrial average futures (DJZ5: Quote, Profile, Research) rose 22 points points. Nasdaq 100 futures (NDZ5: Quote, Profile, Research) were flat.
"Same store sales are not coming as disastrous as we were fearing, and this is giving the futures a bit of a lift," said Larry Peruzzi, senior equity trader at The Boston Company Asset Management. (Additional reporting by Vivianne Rodrigues)
