Up to now, that's true Bruce.
However one of the biggest mistakes buy and hold investors can make is to switch from a strongly depressed sector to a hot sector late in the game. If you did so earlier, great. If you are the last one to the party, buying the hot sector after selling the poor sector you will run a risk of magnifying your losses instead of eventually regaining them (as long as you are in sound companies- no point in holding a stock with little chance of recovery).
If you do the switch you would want to be very quick to get out of the hot sector at any sign of a top.
The broad market has had a great run. I think you would want to be careful with it from here on.
The gold sector has had two very bad years. Many goldies down 70-80%. Some including NCM below even GFC lows.
